The idea that a loving God would intentionally inflict pain on His children is a difficult concept to accept. Yet the author of Hebrews teaches us that God does indeed punish His sons (12:6). It is not a particularly pleasant thought to bear, but it helps if we understand that the true purpose of God’s punishing us is for our discipline.
